Global International Fair Trade Story (GIFTS) sack is an educational resource that has been developed to complement the storybook "The Adventures of Fairis a Nepali Frog".
The Story Sack and its contents are hand-made, fair trade products that are made in Nepal at Women's Skills Development Organisation. The puppets are made by Children Nepal - both World Fair Trade Organisation members based in Pokhara.
The story sack features 9 handmade fair trade puppets, two dolls dressed in Nepali school uniform, a theatre back drop, an A3 sized 'Adventures of Fairis a Nepali Frog' book ideal for reading to the whole class. All of these products come in a colourful, handwoven GIFTS bag made in Nepal.
A data stick is included with exciting lesson plans, powerpoints, films and activities that bring the story to life!
Links are made to the primary school curriculum making it as easy as possible for teachers to integrate the resource into their lessons.

The puppets in the story sack are featured in the story book - with Fairis and Chalak being the main characters. Ramkhali and Chu Maya feature as puppets and characters and are in fact real people!
Powerpoints and videos make the link between the book and the real people.
In class and assemblies childrens faces light up when they realise that the characters are real.
Ramkhali is the founder of Women's Skills Development Organisaton and Chu Maya is also an employee of the organisation.
Extra puppets are included in the story sack so that teachers can develop the story further.
A female frog is included so that children can retell the story to Fairis's sister when he returns home.
Further stories and puppets will be available soon so watch this space!
Sara has worked with Aidan Warlow to help get his amazing teacher training book 'Better Classrooms Better Learning' published in Nepal. BCBL helps teachers in Nepal promote child friendly learning and improve education in Nepal. Global Action Nepal have provided training for teachers in remote villages and the plan is to work together to develop a trainning package on 'How to Use Puppets in the Classroom' - to both promote a child friendly environment and help provide emotional support for children - which is needed in Nepal now more than ever.
The long term aim of Fair Connections is to work with partners such as GAN and PTN to help support schools in Nepal as they strive to improve. With profits from the story sack Fair Connections will supply schools in Nepal with an expanded version of the GIFTS story sack. We will also work with Global Action Nepal and the Pahar Trust to develop and deliver training to teachers in Nepal.
The first of these trainning sessions took place in December of 2015
so please follow us on twitter to find out more.
